some bands i've been cranking
bedouin soundclash:
amazing reggae/soul trio from canada; plays some fresh beats with a post-blues/folk twist.
"when the night feels my song" is incredible.
modest mouse:
everyone should know these guys; borrowed good news from david wirsig recently, and it's pretty good. new album hits soon; latest single: "dashboard," i believe.
"float on"...all the hype is well-placed
sufjan stevens:
yeah, i made a post awhile back, but this guy deserves all the attention he can get. just purchased illinois, as i implied to earlier - and it's a sure 9.5/10 in my eyes...or ears, rather. it's folk, so deal with it.
check out whatever he has up, especially "henny buggy"
the southern sea:
i'm not sure if they have a purevolume, but check out their homepage if you're interested.
lo-fi electronic pop-rock is the best i can describe em.
my brightest diamond:
doesn't have a purevolume; fantastic indie vocal pop from asthmatic kitty records (same as sufjan). needless to say, look into her...music, that is. (gosh.)
havalina:
a band from tooth and nail's older days. funky/psychedelic avant-rock. i'm not sure if you check their music anywhere b/sides itunes.
um, all that in addition to: new explosions in the sky, starflyer 59, coldplay, red hot chili peppers, etc. i know i'm forgeting some.
p.s. all lower caps, yo.

is it just me?
or does everyone intentionally avoid all my posts and/or comments? just wondering. fine, i don't post here often. does that mean i don't have a voice that has a right to be heard? or are my tastes too "strange" for y'all?
yeah, i'm a little ticked. i've been surfing the blog to see if anybody responds; so far, so bad.
excuse me while i listen to my fresh new sufjan stevens cd (illinois). in case you're wondering, rick: you'll find yourself borrowing this from me, asap.
peace.

Gym Class Heroes
So, Gym Class Heroes is just a little bit(ok, a lot) different than most the bands I post on here. They're a hip-hop outfit with actual instruments and messages positive enough to stray from most mainstream hip-hop, but still stays within the secular market. So if you're looking for hip-hop with catchy beats without the same looping beat pattern throughout...and songs that aren't about sex, drugs, money, etc, then listen to Gym Class Heroes.Recommended: "Cupid's Chokehold," "New Friend Request," and "Papercuts."

Brand New

Brand New is one of my latest bands that I like. They're an indie band from Long Island who play soft, almost Starflyer 59 segments, and then loud, Vheissu-era Thrice segments. They have a new album out, titled The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me. All around they're just a pretty cool band, and I'm running out of things to say, so that's it.
Recommended listens: "Sowing Season(Yeah)," "Jesus Christ," and "Jude Law and a Semester Abroad."

Coheed and Cambria
I hardly know anything about these dudes in Coheed and Cambria, but they make some of the best music on today's music scene. "Welcome Home," is a loud, crazy, and dramatic single for their newest CD, titled, (clears throat) Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness. And that's pretty much all I have to say about them, so just listen.Recommended: "Welcome Home," and "The Suffering."

The White Stripes
Jack and Meg are the two minds behind The White Stripes. They were originally married, but then they divorced, but for some reason decided to KEEP the band. They continue to put out successful and brilliantly written music. Albums like Elephant and White Blood Cells are prime examples of this. So just check 'em out when you can(unfortunately they don't have a purevolume or MySpace that I can find).Recommended listens: "Seven Nation Army," "We're Going to Be Friends," and "Fell in Love With a Girl."

Updatification for your Face(TBS, UO, AFS)
Ok so, it looks like that the list of people who are going looks like this:
Amanda Camarena, Felicia Camarena, Ricky Cummings, Shannon Devine, Kamilla Moore, and Mariah Moore.
The people who are possiblities(haven't received permission yet, haven't ordered their tickets yet, etc.) are as follows: Matt Nichols, Rebekah Barker, Shayla Hamilton, and MAYBE David Wirsig(but he can get his own ride, considering he drives).
The rides are my Tahoe, and either Amanda's car or Mariah's Suburban.
To buy tickets, click on the link and scroll all the way down to March 15th in SLO, and click on the little shopping cart whatever-it-is on the left.

TBS, UO, & AFS *UPDATE*
Ok, so I'm assuming almost everyone here is going.
Shannon: I'm pretty sure you're living off my extra ticket. And no, you don't have to pay me.
Amanda: Um, my mom decided if she DOESN'T HAVE TO DRIVE, she won't. So...I guess that's her way of saying if there's room, can I please come with you guys? But if not, it's cool.
Quick poll: please name everyone in your family(including yourself) who is going so we can arrange rides and so forth.
If you want tickets, click on the link.
