50th Anniversary!!!

Well, I can't believe it's here, but my "All American Rejects" post was the 50th band posted!!!! That's awesome!! Not about the AAR, but that we've already burned through 50 of our favorite bands!! I just thought I should let you know.

The All American Rejects

The All American Rejects is not the most original band, but they do have catchy songs, no questions asked. They may be just an average American band of the 21st century, but with hits like "Dirty Little Secret," and "Move Along," they show us that they're here to stay. Recommended listens: "Dirty Little Secret," and "Move Along."

UnderOATH

YAY! I got my mom's computer for a little while. So, might as well take advantage of the opportunity. This is Underoath. One of the best Christian/post-hardcore/alternative bands ever! I love 'em so much and wish I could see them live really really really bad. With 6 members UO can rock just as hard as any other secular band is this genre. (in my opinion) So, please go check 'em out, cuz you won't be sorry.

Also, they have this DVD with live shows, music vids, and lots of funny behind the scenes stuff. So, if you wanna watch let me know cuz I'm willing to share the wealth.

Taking Back Sunday

Taking Back Sunday is(in my opinion) an alternate My Chemical Romance. But nobody cares what I think. Straight from New York these guys are Punk Rock-Emo. The first time I heard them was on the Tony Hawk's American Wasteland Soundtrack, in which they did the cover of a classic punk/hardcore song "Suburban Home," originally by the Descendents. Ever since then I've been getting alot of their music. But whatever! Recommended listens: "MakeDamnSure," and "Suburban Home/I Like Food."

Thursday

Some people call Thursday the contemporary for Thrice. That's a pretty good assumption, but I have a better one. I think they're a mix of alot of things. Imagine Fall Out Boy's poppy beats laced with Emery's cynical emo lyrics and add a dash of Hawthorne Heights' screaming and you have Thursday. Recommended listens: "War All the Time," and "Counting 5-4-3-2-1."

"Vheissu"

Vheissu is now my all time favorite Thrice album. I was kind of reluctant to buy it at first, but now I'm glad I did. Thrice's music is better than ever, and this time the CD is definitely Christian. Not necessarily worship, but it's so obvious that 100% of the songs are Christian. For example, read these lyrics: "...we all were lost now we are found. No one can stop us or slow us down. We all have names and we are all known, we know that we'll never walk alone..." "...and as long as we live, every scar is a bridge to someone's broken heart. And there's no greater love than one who shed his blood for his friends. We must open up our wounds..." "...we are not alone, we feel an unseen love. We are sons and heirs of grace, we are children of a light that never dims, a love that never dies..." Recommended songs: "Image of the Invisible," "The Earth will Shake," "For Miles," "Of Dust and Nations," and "Red Sky." Don't forget to listen to this! It's awesome!

Emery

Screamo, post-punk, hard rock, or just plain emo - whatever. That doesn't change the fact that Emery still rocks better than almost any act on the scene today. Passionate singing, punk (as in 80s-era punk, not Green Day) guitar riffs, and mature lyrics make for one heck of a band. Their first full-length, The Weak's End, is by far better than The Question (which isn't a bad album on its own terms), their most recent release on indie giant Tooth and Nail Records. However, bands like this make me wish more self-proclaimed "emo" bands, such as The Used or Panic! at the Disco, would follow in their footsteps into becoming...well, real emo bands.

Recommended listens: "Walls," "The Ponytail Parades," and "To Whom It May Concern"

Neutral Milk Hotel

Don't let the unique name fool you: this four-piece (sometimes three) psych-folk band from Georgia is one the most exquisite and innovative groups in the independent scene since the early 90s. Lead singer Jeff Mangum has alone started over a dozen bands as well as a now-flourishing "record label" which is home to such acts as The Olivia Tremor Control and Of Montreal. But NMH is easily the most versatile and experienced, having released various demos and EPs throughout their home state. They, however, have been an undetermined hiatus since the release of their last full-length entitled In the Aeroplane over the Sea. The music certainly isn't for everyone, but I have been getting into them a bunch lately and therefore highly recommended them to those jonesin' for something...different.

Recommended listens: "I Love How You Loved Me" and "Two-Headed Boy"

Showbread

Enough said. I can't even describe this band. You HAVE to listen to understand the great and mighty power of... Showbread.

They don't look that they do in that picture anymore. It's been like 2 yrs. since any promo shots.

The Blood Brothers

You want raw hardcore with a kicking psychedelic twist? Then here are The Blood Brothers. Rock has never destroyed so freakin' much. High-pitched screaming jams with raging guitars and beats more fractured than the last time you smashed your finger in a revolving door. Overall, they're kinda like Death from Above 1979, but more...freaky.

Recommended listens: "Love Rhymes with Hideous Car Wreck"

These things are getting too short for my tastes, to be honest.
