American Idiot

Okay, well, I started posting other CDs I like, so I decided, what the heck, why not do this one? American Idiot, Green Day's most accomplished work yet, is what is called a "punk rock opera." Fo those of you who don't know what that is, it means all 13 tracks of this CD blend together to make a story. Now, this CD is very complicated because of all that goes on, so I'll make it short and quick. One teen in the suburbs of America decides suburbs are boring so he decides to run away, but he gets hooked on drugs and falls in love with a rebellious girl(note the song "She's a Rebel"), but decides life sucks in the city too, so he goes home. Sheesh! I know it doesn't sound like much, but it's really long and kinda complicated. Whatever.
Recommended listens: "Jesus of Suburbia," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Give Me Novacaine," "Letterbomb," and "Homecoming." Enjoy.

Genres and Styles of Music

We may have already done this post in the past, but times change so I think we needed in update on favorite genres. What's your favorite genre or style of music? Do you have any preferences, or do you tend to listen to a lot of different things? Post your stuff here.

6 Days Later

First, I would like to congratulate Melina. She posted the 100th post. I'm suprised no one caught that.

Ok, well, today I shall post a band by the name of 6 Days Later. They are a Christian rock/punk-ish band from the UK. I don't know much about them since I only started listening to them like.... 2 days ago. They look really young, but that doesn't change the fact that I like their music.
So, have a listen and let me know what you think! Ciao!

Define the Great Line

Well, well, well. You guys were wondering what I would post, but I told Amanda I'd been listening to Underoath a lot lately. DUH! There's your clue, Sherlock! But anyway, Define the Great Line is Underoath's recent release, a very dark and sorrowfull album, in my opinion. Though, this album is heavier than their work in the past(for instance, They're Only Chasing Safety), one major let-down for me on this CD is how the lead screamer's scream went from high scream, to low growl. Kinda dissapointing, but still manages to keep this album awesome. Just talk to Amanda, she'll explain how awesome it is.

Recommended tracks: "In Regards to Myself," "You're Ever So Inviting," "Returning Empty Handed," and "Writing On the Walls." Enjoy. Especially you, Amanda.

Yellowcard

Yellowcard is an alternative/punk-pop right out of California. If fact, they even have a song name titled "Ocean Ave." But enough about coincidences. On Lights and Sounds(Yellowcard's current release, which is definitely better than Ocean Ave.), the band sounds light years away from their old material like One for the Kids. Granted, the band still trades in the immediate melodies and heart-on-sleeve lyrics that they've used since the beginning. Regardless, Lights and Sounds ends up being the band's most accomplished works yet.

Recommended listens: "Lights and Sounds," "Martin Sheen or JFK," "City of Devils," and "Rough Landing, Holly." Enjoy.

Rhapsody in blue

Ok just one more. This is like my favorite song in the world. if you can listen to it and have a spare 15 minutes than i highly reccomend it. Its like jazz blues classical ish. But its really fun to play on piano so just listen to the whole thing. and youve probably heard some of it before on a commercial or something. Well i cant get the link on here but i can email it to you but ya.
BTW its 31 pages long which is why its 15 minutes.

Nirvana

Ok guys, try and stick with me here, lately I've been kinda into the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit." I learned to play it on guitar then I fell in love with the song. I don't know much about the band except for the fact that the lead singer, Kirt Kobane(as seen in the center), commmit suicide ending Nirvana's unbelievable fame. I will miss you, Nirvana.

Mezmerize

Ok, ok, hear me out. I know most of you don't like System of a Down, but I think this CD is a really, REALLY, good CD. System of a Down's best, no questions asked. The first few songs punch out heavy guitar riffs and screaming vocals, but in fact, the entire CD does the same. I don't know what to say besides, just listen for yourself. Recommended listens: "B.Y.O.B," "Cigaro," "Question!", and "Old School Hollywood." Enjoy.

Stadium Arcadium

Stadium Arcadium is the new Red Hot Chili Peppers' CD. It's the best CD so far this year. Not kidding. These guys are incredible. Their songwriting is unbelievable, their musical talents are incredible, and to top it all off, the music is catchy and amazing. I highly recommend this CD, even though most the CD is punk-funk. I know, punk-funk is a genre not many people listen to, but try it, just this once. It's worth it. Recommended listens: "Dani California," "Snow((Hey Oh))," "Stadium Arcadium," and "Desecration Smile." Enjoy.

Zez Confrey

Ok stick with me here, i said classical but hes actually ragtime. This guy is awesome. I did a song called dizzy fingers and i am workin on kitten on the keys but again the songs go everywhere like they dont have a backbone. Tecnically they do. It ususally goes(at least for this guy)

Bach/ 6 month aniversary

I guess this is a comic post but i really do play classical music most of the time.
Now tecnically he's not a band or singer, but a composer. Compared to rock, country, hip-hop, rap, all the other stuff we talked about, this is probably more my style cuz this is what i was raised around. i doubt there is a purevolume for this but, put your hands together for... Johann Sebastien Bach!!! Bach or j. s. bach for short.
BTW, its the sixth month anniversary for this blog on the 23rd of this month, so im celebrating by posting something that this blog has never seen:classical music. so ya
If u ever get a chance, come up to me on tuesday or somethin and i can play 4 u:Inventio 1, Inventio 4, and inventio 13. All the songs are unpredictable and thats what hes famous for. I recomend listening to any of his songs but these three are the only ones i can play.
the clip is played on a harpscichord, and there is someone talkin in the background. this is called well tempered 2-2 i think so. btw, i cant play this one. in case the link doesnt work go to
http://www.fotosearch.com/SMN109/fur07/
after this there is one more classical artist i'll post then ill be done. just wanna get it out there

Panic! At the Disco

I noticed that we've only posted bands we like. But I had a thought, what about posting bands we don't like? So, here's Panic! At the Disco, the worst band I've seen since Plus One. I have to give Plus One props though, at least they're a CHRISTIAN band, instead of this stupid wannabe emo band that mocks Christians with songs such as "Build God, Then We'll Talk." With such cheesy lines and repetitive songs, it's hard to believe this band has made it's way to the top of the mainstream. I warn you to not go out and buy their album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. This band is so overrated. So unbelievably overrated.

Songs recommended for not listening: "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage," and "Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off," as well as all their other stuff.

P.S.: I only put the link there so you can see them in all their glory. There's not much glory to see.

White Flag

These guys are from Brazil. So their music is in Spanish. (I think, isn't that what they speak in Brazil?) But anyway, they're pretty cool cuz they're Christian and they are from Brazil! Plus they are like punk-ish. So if you could please check 'em out by clicking on the heading. Thank you.

Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam, the greatest grunge band of the 90s, or possibly all-time(in my opinion). For the past few years these guys have been too camera shy to make a new album. They just released a new one, however, named...you got it, Pearl Jam. I am also in desperate want to get this album as well.

Recommended listens: "Life Wasted," and "World Wide Suicide." Enjoy.

AFI

AFI is my current favorite band. Straight out of the Bay Area, Califorinia, these guys have been called the biggest band from the Bay Area since Green Day. I don't know a whole lot about 'em, so I'll cut to the chase. I am desperate to go out and buy their new CD, DECEMBERUNDERGROUND. Ugh, the wait till any store gets another shipment of them is killing me. Anyway.

Recommended listens: "Miss Murder," and "Kill Caustic." Enjoy.

Dashboard Confessional

Dashboard Confessional is the only acoustic-emo band I've ever heard of. Don't let that scare you away, these guys(or maybe just guy) are really very talented, catchy, and completely innocent(which makes it an easy seller to parents). I highly recommend this band to anyone. Recommended listens: "Don't Wait," and "Vindicated."

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland Soundtrack

Though this isn't one artist in general, it's a soundtrack with many artists that I like on it. It's a soundtrack for a video game of the same name. What's incredible about this album is that the artists(ranging from Senses Fail, to My Chemical Romance, to Thrice), had to choose a classic punk/hardcore song and cover it only for this game. What's even more incredible is that the covers are extremely accurate to the originals, whether it's My Chem Romance's bouncy, fun, cover of the Misfit's "Astro Zombies," or Thursday's heartbroken cover of the Buzzcock's "Ever Fallen in Love." I highly recommend this album to any punk/hardcore fan. It's definitlely worth checking out. Recommended listens: "Astro Zombies," "Seeing Red/Screaming at a Wall," and "Ever Fallen in Love." Enjoy.

Dead Poetic

I don't have much to say about Dead Poetic, except for the fact that they're one of the best Christian artists out there currently(something to expect from a record label like Tooth & Nail). I should really let Amanda do the talking, but I might as well. This hardcore/screamo band is releasing a new album this summer by the name of Vices. I can't wait. In the mean time, check out their current release New Medicines. Recommended listens: "New Medicines," "Hostages," and "Modern Morbid Prophesies." Enjoy.

Country

Ok, it's been a while since we did a genre post. So I'm doing one on by far the most obnoxious genre(in my opinion). I would rather listen to 50 Cent than Toby Keith. I hate country, what do you think?

Until Eternity

Until Eternity is one of my band friends. They're good, Christian, Hardcore/Screamo music. I gotta say, I really like 'em. Don't know much about 'em, but I like 'em. I forgot the names of the two songs on their purevolume site, so I'll just say the recommended listens are those two. Enjoy...
